Golden Gate Highlands Adventure Tour

Day 1:
This morning we leave Johannesburg or Pretoria after breakfast and head South. We pass the seemingly endless maize and cattle farms of the Highveld and arrive in Clarens in time for lunch. Guests are then free to have lunch at one of the many restaurants and spend the rest of the day exploring this amazing and quaint little town which is fast developing into the gateway to the Freestate Province. We meet up again for sundowners and spend a cosy evening at a private guesthouse.
Dinner included

Day 2:
After a hearty breakfast, and a last chance to do some exploring, we make our way over towards the Golden Gate National Park.
Nestled in the foothills of the Maluti Mountains in the northeastern Freestate, this is true highland habitat and home to a variety of mammals including the majestic Eland and the Rock Dassies or Hyrax. The name Golden Gate is derived from the various shades of gold cast by the sandstone cliffs at different times of day – especially Brandwag rock that guards over the rest camp. The Golden Gate Nature Reserve is well known for its hiking trails and offers the hiker trails lasting from 45 minutes to longer overnight hikes.

Guests can sit and relax in the heat of the day, swim in the natural pool or spend the early morning or late afternoon on self guided trails. Guests are then free to spend the time on the various hiking trails available – ranging from 45 minutes to four hours. Our drive back to Clarens and the cosy guesthouse is a mere 15 minutes.

For the keen hikers,we are able to do a packed lunch so that you can enjoy the full day out in the park. For the armchair traveller, we recommend a short hike followed by lunch, after which we can set out to the vulture restaurant nearby hoping to see some of the animals on route.
Breakfast and dinner included.

Day 3:
Today guests are in for a treat. We spend the day White Water rafting with Outrageous Adventures on the Ash river. This man-made river is the outfall of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. The water in this river comes from the Katze Dam in the Lesotho Highlands and travels through 45 kms of tunnels before gushing out near Clarens. After an exhilerating and adrenalin filled day, we make our way back to our lodgings for reflection...
Dinner on the town at own expense...
Breakfast and lunch on the river included.

Day 4:
Today we make our way to Schaapplaats to see some of the local Rock Paintings and Bushman art. The hike to see the Rock Paintings takes about 15 mins, and we return to Clarens for some last minute shopping before slowly making our way back to the hustle and bustle of Gauteng and the city. Our drive takes us a few hours, and we arrive back in the late afternoon.
Breakfast is included.

This is available as a budget and camping tour.
