It is an early morning start as the kloof we visit is about 1,5 hours from Johannesburg. Our journey takes us into the Magaliesberg Mountains. This picturesque mountain range is steeped in natural, geological, and archaeological history as well as the cultural history of the early settlers and original Bantu-speaking inhabitants. The range is amongst the oldest in the world, and at over 2000 million years old is 100 million years more ancient than Mount Everest!

It has sweeping views of cliffs and gorges. 

The Canopy tour takes us over the Ysterhoutkloof Gorge with a series of zigzags. Safety is a major issue, and the local site guides are thoroughly trained in this regard, as well as the history and geology of the area. 

Birders and Botanists will delight in the variety and beauty of the species they encounter.

The canopy tour lasts about 2 hours depending on group size, and we have a light lunch afterwards, before making our way back to Johannesburg or Pretoria, stopping at some craft sites en-route.
