Join us as we visit the 4 elephants at the Elephant Sanctuary Haartebeespoort. This is a magical experience few will forget. Being in the presence of these regal and intelligent animals alone is the preserve of the privileged. You could be one of them.

The sanctuary is nestled in the ancient mountain range of the Magaliesberg. These majestic mountains are situated north west of Johannesburg and stretch east to west for over 120 kilometres. Once here you are surrounded by the indigenous bush. This private reserve is home to many species such as impala, klipspringer, baboons, porcupine and leopard. There is also a resident family of meerkats who delight in giving the Elephants the impersonations of mice but you are here to see and interact with the 4 resident elephant.

The sanctuary offers and exclusive hands-on educational experience with the elephants. Professional site guides will give you an informative talk on the African Elephant, Loxodonta africana. Once in the forest area the elephants will be brought to you and you will be allowed to touch and later walk with them, trunk-in-hand so to speak.

There will also be an opportunity to hand feed the elephants. Elephant rides in the Boma are another highlight but these are an optional extra. Unfortunately for safety reasons children need to be 8 and over to ride the Elephants.

Thereafter join us on the deck for a three course lunch.

After lunch and time allowing we make a brief stop at the Chameleon Village for a spot of shopping at the many craft stalls. The crafters come from all over Africa and you will hear French, Portuguese and Swahili being spoken. Here you will be able to buy that wooden giraffe everyone talks about!
There is a morning programme starting at 10h00, with a departure at 08h00 from Johannesburg or Pretoria and an afternoon programme starting with lunch at 13h00 followed by the afternoon programme at 14h00. Departure for the afternoon programme is at 10h30 from Johannesburg or Pretoria.
